Super Size Me

We watched Super Size Me yesterday.

If you have not seen this film, do it, you will be glad you did.

Morgan Spurlock, the film maker, decided to eat McDonald's every day, three times a day for 30 days to see what would happen to him. This experiment, came on the heels of a personal injury law-suit that was filed in the early 2000s by some people against the fast food industry, for making them fat. (Ya, if you are saying, then don't eat fast food, you're not alone)

Before he started, he went to 3 doctors and had exams with them to chart his physical condition. Over the course of the film he also worked with a registerd dietician, and a personal trainer. He was very healthy to start out. Over the course of the month, as we went back to the doctors for check ups, it was documented that he was become more and more unhealthy. In one week, he gained 10 pounds and on a daily average was eating 5000 calories -- that double what a man needs.

By the end of the film he had gained 25 pounds, his cholestoral had raised 65 points and his liver had tured to fat and was showing signs of early liver disease. Not pretty at all. He also found his energy levels dropping, that he was depressed more, but that lifted when he ate McDonalds and that the menu was very boring after about a week.

So what is the point? The point is that Americans are eating things like McDonalds more and more. As they are doing that, they are putting themselves in great danger. I'm not blasting McDonald's, if you eat there and don't know you are eating crap you are stupid. (Even their "healthy" meals like salads have more calories and fat than the Big Mac -- just a thought). Moderation is key. It's ok to eat out, once in a while. It's not ok to eat out every day, or even every week. It's vital that children are taught good eating habits while they are young, so that they don't turn into a McDonald's addict.

I saw that movie and loved it. It was gross and enlightening all at the same time. I will never look at a chicken nugget the same EVER again! LOL.
